Abbott to Adams: “Make My Day!”

This feud between Texas Governor Greg Abbott and New York City Mayor Eric Adams is adding a little humor to what is otherwise really a very grim situation: the inundating of America with huge numbers of illegal world migrants.

We’ve recently devoted numerous blog postings (such as August 8, August 4, and July 19) as well as a newsletter issue (“The ‘Abbott Plan’ Timeline,” August 8) to this little drama, but it seems every day there’s a new stanza.

On Wednesday, for example, three more buses full of illegal migrants arrived in New York City from Texas. In response, Adams branded Abbott “an anti-American governor.” On the previous day, he shared a brainstorm with the press: sending New Yorkers to Texas to campaign for Beto O’Rourke against Abbott in the fall election.

This threat prompted Governor Abbott to respond à la Dirty Harry:

Go ahead, mayor. Make my day. We will explain to our fellow Texans that the Beto campaign is being aided by a bunch of New Yorkers in addition to George Soros, and that will do nothing but harm his campaign. Bring it.

To which, the mayor came back with this rather pallid rejoinder:

I know he thinks he’s Clint Eastwood, but he’s not. He is an anti-American governor that is really going against everything we stand for. He’s a global embarrassment because this is not what we do as Americans.

Good one, Mr. Mayor. “Not Who We Are.” Seems like we’ve heard that before somewhere.
