Noem Nixes Pritzker’s Plea

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker thought it would be a good idea to let all the illegal trick-or-treaters in Chicago enjoy romping about the city without having to worry about mean old ICEmen spoiling the fun. Yesterday, he sent a letter to the Trump Administration, saying, in part:

Illinois families deserve to spend Halloween weekend without fear. No child should be forced to inhale tear gas or other chemical agents while trick-or-treating in their own neighborhood.

Pritzker requested — in his words, “in the name of human decency” — that enforcement of immigration law be paused throughout the long Halloween weekend to enable the city’s embattled illegals to “celebrate in peace.” He concluded by saying, somewhat ironically, “My request is based on a desire to protect communities throughout Chicago.”

If there is any peace to be found in the city of Chicago over this or any weekend it will not be because federal law enforcement is on pause. Weekends are weekly horror shows throughout the year. Last weekend, there were 20 shootings, three dead. The previous weekend, 25 were shot, four killed. The weekend before that, 33 were shot, seven killed. Last year over the July 4 weekend, 98 shot were shot, 17 fatally. On Halloween night in 2023, gunfire broke out on the West side and 15 were shot at a single party. And so on.

Secretary Noem took little time in replying to the governor’s request:

No, we’re absolutely not willing to put on pause any work that we will do to keep communities safe. The fact that Gov. Pritzker is asking for that is shameful. Especially when we’re going to send all our kiddos out on the streets and going to events and enjoying the holiday season, we want to make sure that they’re safe.
