Playing the Name Game in Chicago

Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson sees everything, and we do mean EVERYTHING, through a racial lens. Case in point: He just insisted that anyone using the term “illegal alien,” long an official US government term, must refer to black people as “slaves.” Say what?

Yes, at a Saturday press conference, Mayor Johnson said in a response to a reporter who used the term “illegal alien”:

We don’t have illegal aliens. I don’t know if that’s from some sort of sci-fi message that you wish you’ve had. We listen, the legal term for my people were “slaves.” You want me to use that term too? So look, let’s just get the language right. . . . The last thing that I am going to do is accept the type of racist, nasty language to describe human beings.

Note:  Section 1252(c) of the “Aliens and Nationality” laws is titled: “Authorizing State and local law enforcement officials to arrest and detain certain illegal aliens.” [Emphasis added.]
