NY Gives Legal Aid to Illegals

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently came to the defense of City Comptroller and mayoral contender Brad Lander. While escorting migrants to a court hearing, Lander was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on charges that he assaulted ICE agents. Later the charges were dropped.

Hochul took the occasion to highlight her state’s generosity toward illegal aliens who may face deportation. She stated “[Immigrants] don’t have the attention, they don’t have the lawyers, and that’s why the state of New York is providing $50 million to cover legal services for people who are finding themselves in this situation.”

Actually, the state budget allocates $64.2 million to provide these services. That, however, is not enough for Lander. He’s called for increasing the total to $134 million.
