Those protestors in Los Angeles waving Mexican flags, spitting on American flags, and openly warring with police and National Guard this weekend were declared “good men and women” by Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum today in her weekly press briefing. And the Mexican leader went further, threatening that if the much-relied-upon remittances that those “heroes” send back to the homeland were taxed, she would call on them to “mobilize,” because “We don’t want taxes on remittances from our fellow countrymen.”
Those remitttances add up to over $25 billion each year, more than four percent of Mexico’s GNP. No wonder she’s threatening to provoke insurrection in her northern neighbor.
The deliberate act of provoking violence in another country is grounds for war, potentially resulting in Mexican War II. President Sheinbaum should think long and hard about how that last one turned out.
