Last July in Aurora, Colorado, 24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver died after a jeep collided with her car. The driver of the jeep was a 15-year-old illegal alien from Colombia. He was traveling 90 mph in 45 mph zone.
The Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office initially wanted to press for the maximum sentence of two years in youth corrections. That changed, however, when Democrat Amy Padden became the new district attorney. She offered the defendant two years’ probation if he pleaded guilty.
The treatment of the injuries that Weaver sustained before she died left her family with a medical bill of almost $1 million. The jeep, belonging to the defendant’s mother, was uninsured. She cannot be held legally liable because her son took the vehicle without her permission.
The Weaver family made it known that the defendant did not apologize for causing their daughter’s death. Vicki’s father, John Weaver, stated that he intends to apply for asylum, so that he can remain in the United States. Weaver observed that “Immigration and the criminal justice system and all these things landed together one day in Aurora and now I sit here today without a daughter.”
