The far-left mayor of Nashville, Tennessee, Freddie O’Connell, has proclaimed that his city will resist enforcement of immigration laws in his city. Specifically, the city police will have to inform his “Office of New Americans” of any effort by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to round up illegal aliens, presumably to tip them off in advance.
O’Connell’s proclamation followed, followed an ICE raid which took place last week. Evidently, the mayor makes no distinction between citizens and illegal aliens, as indicated by the name of his office of “new Americans.” Furthermore, he referred to the raid as an “act of terror” directed against Nashville’s “citizens.”
The Nashville mayor stated that “trauma inflicted on families is long-lasting, and I’m doing everything in my power consistent with applicable law to protect anyone who calls Nashville home. What’s clear today is that people who do not share our values of safety and community have the authority to cause deep community harm.”
O’Connell seems to care little about the harm illegal immigration does to Nashville’s citizens. Can a leader with this disposition, be considered a loyal American in any way shape or form?
