Trump Welcomes Afrikaner Refugees

Responding to an ongoing genocide in South Africa — about which he says American media refuses to report — President Trump has offered refugee status to the white farmers who, as a group, are being systematically murdered in that country. Yesterday, a US-chartered flight carrying 49 Afrikaners landed at Dulles Airport and was greeted by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. A State Department official told Fox News:

Faced with undeniable government-sponsored racial discrimination in South Africa, the first Afrikaner refugees have arrived in the United States. The U.S. Refugee Admissions Program was intended for situations like this. Under President Trump’s strong leadership, the State Department has helped to provide a new life for these refugees in America, where they will live in freedom, safety, and opportunity.

The new resettlement program began with an executive order issued by Trump on Feb. 7 titled “Addressing Egregious Actions of the Republic of South Africa.” That order directed the State Department to move Afrikaners to the front of the line for resettlement. That order came in response to a law passed by the South African legislature allowing the seizure of private land for public use, sometimes without compensation.

Addressing the program, White House advisor Stephen Miller said:

What’s happening in South Africa fits the textbook definition of why the refugee program was created,” Stephen Miller told reporters on Friday. “This is persecution based on a protected characteristic — in this case, race. This is race-based persecution.

Miller said this initial flight would be part of a “much larger-scale relocation effort.” We are told the refugees will be sent to states like Minnesota, Idaho and Alabama.

The resettlement program is accompanied by diplomatic actions as well. In March, Secretary of State Marco Rubio expelled the South African ambassador to the US, calling him a “race-baiting” politician who hates America. Also in March, Rubio boycotted a G20 foreign ministers meeting in Johannesburg.

These are efforts those of us who endured the Obama and Biden administrations might have despaired of ever witnessing.
