Gitmo for 30K Deportees

The Guantanamo Bay Detention Center in Cuba was created in the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks within a 45-square-mile stretch of US-controlled land on the island’s southern coast. Throughout its existence, it has housed at least 780 individual inmates, though today only 15 remain. That number is expected to skyrocket soon, however, now that Pres. Trump has ordered the expansion of the existing facility to accommodate 30,000 inmates, doubling the DHS’s current overall capacity.

The newly expanded camp will house the “worst criminal illegal aliens” rounded up by ICE in their ongoing raids. Though not specifically announced, the new Gitmo is assumed to act as a transit camp to temporarily house criminal aliens difficult to deport.
