Colombia Will Take Its Illegals

The Trump Administration won a victory yesterday won a victory when it persuaded the government of Colombia to accept the return of its citizens who are living illegally in the  United States. Colombia’s president, Gustavo Petro, had initially refused to take back Columbian illegals being flown into his country by U.S. military aircraft. He maintained that they were not criminals, while objecting to the use of military planes.

The Colombian president, however, quickly changed his tune when President Trump threatened to impose sharply higher tariffs on Columbian goods sent to the United States, as well as other sanctions. A press release from the White House stated that “The government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay.”

A number of countries refuse to accept their citizens whom we wish to deport, and some commentators say this is a significant obstacle to our immigration law enforcement. Trump’s successful action with Colombia suggests that where there is a will, there is a way.
