On Monday, Dec. 30, a Mexican immigration agent, Luis Alberto Olivas García, was murdered by suspected Tren de Aragua gangmembers after he asked to see their idenfication. The murder took place in Mexico across the border from El Paso, Texas. Mexican authorities later that day arrested two Venezuelan nationals and a Colombian in connection with the murder. The two Venezuelans were tattooed with gang insignia.
The New York Post reported that TdA members had been gathering near the border recently, threatening US border guards if they try to stop them from crossing. The previous week, 20 gangmembers attempted to “break through the border gate, carrying blades, tire irons and broken liquor bottles.”
On Wednesday, incoming Border Czar Tom Homan told Fox News he expects there will be an increase in violence on the border at the beginning of the Trump administration. That increase may have begun.
