A court in Athens, Georgia, has found Jose Ibarra guilty of the murder of nursing student Laken Riley. Ibarra is an illegal alien from Venezuela, and according to sources in the Department of Homeland Security, he is a member of the violent criminal gang Tren de Aragua. As we reported recently, this gang from Venezuela is increasing its activities in the United States.
Riley was out for a morning jog when Ibarra accosted her. As explained by prosecutor Shelia Ross, “[Ibarra] went hunting for females on the University of Georgia campus, and on his hunt, he encountered 22-year-old Laken Riley on her morning jog, When Laken Riley refused to be his rape victim, he bashed her skull in with a rock repeatedly. . . . She fought for her dignity, and in that fight, she caused this defendant to leave forensic evidence behind. She also marked her killer for the entire world to see.”
Although Georgia has the death penalty for murder, the court spared Ibarra’s life by sentencing him to life in prison with out the possibility of parole.
After Ibarra entered the U.S. illegally in 2022, the lax enforcement policies of the Biden Administration enabled him to remain. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp commented that “This criminal should never have been allowed to enter our country, and he certainly should not have been allowed to stay after shamelessly breaking our laws. Open border policies failed Laken Riley, and today’s verdict is a reminder that the safety of our communities must remain our number one priority.”
