When President-elect Trump is inaugurated in January, Alejandro Mayorkas will step down as head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The following will be his legacy at that position:
According to DHS statistics, Mayorkas presided over the registration of 10.5 million illegal migrants between January 2021 and June 2024. Of that total, he denied entrance to 2.5 million under the Title 42 epidemic rules, which expired in mid-2023. Another 1.9 million also were removed.
At the same time, Mayorkas welcomed 5.9 illegals into our country under his parole schemes, which had Border Patrol agents processing them for entry rather than blocking their entry. This reduction of border security helped an additional 2.2 migrants to evade arrest as they slipped in to the U.S.
Between June and October of this year, another 400,000 illegal migrants gained residence in our country, and another 300,000 are expected by the time of Mayorkas’ departure. Thus we have him to thank for arrival of almost nine million illegal migrants. Without greatly enhanced immigration law enforcement, few of these people will ever go home.
