Violent Illegals in Texas

Illegal alien advocates commonly claim that illegals commit fewer crimes than U.S. natives. This of course ignores the fact that their very presence in our country is a crime, and that they have to commit other crimes such as ID fraud to stay here.

Presented with these facts, the advocates often will reformulate their claim to say that illegals commit fewer “serious” crimes, such as crimes of violence. The actual statistics are hard to assess because of incomplete record keeping nationwide. Nevertheless, statistics from some localities suggest that serious crime by illegals is significant.

One example is Harris County, Texas, the largest country in that state. The county jail currently holds 10,697 inmates. Of that total, 1170 (12 percent) are illegal aliens with ICE detainers, which earmark illegal aliens for deportation. Close to half of the illegals in the Harris County jail are charged with particularly violent crimes.

Illegal aliens constitute 3.6 percent of the population of Texas, compared with 12 percent of the Harris County inmates.
