The California state legislature, as deeply in debt as the state is, is nevertheless on the verge of providing zero-interest loans to illegals to cover home mortgage down payments. California has an estimated two million illegal residents.
The state already has a program in place — the California Dream For All Shared Appreciation Loan — to make such loans to lower-income legal residents. Now, the Democrats controlling the California Senate Appropriations Committee have voted to open that program to illegals. If the measure passes the full Senate, also controlled by the Democrats, it will head to the governor’s desk for his probable signature and become law.
San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, a Republican, told Daily Caller:
Once again, California has chosen to prioritize illegal immigration and fiscal irresponsibility over the needs of its citizens, all while facing a $60 billion deficit that will ultimately be passed onto taxpayers. California is in dire financial straits, yet lawmakers continue to prioritize programs that incentivize illegal immigration and strain local resources. Expanding this program to include illegal immigrants is not just another handout — it’s a massive overreach that shifts the financial burden onto law-abiding taxpayers.
This is taking place as the state faces a huge budget shortfall. In June, the lawmakers passed a budget that cut spending and raised taxes on businesses in an effort to deal with the massive budget deficit. Yet two months later, as part of their ongoing, obsessive pandering to illegals, they are contemplating putting the state’s taxpayers into yet more debt.
California Sen. Brian Jones, a Republican, told Daily Caller:
Many legal California residents can’t afford a home in their own state. Instead of addressing the housing crisis, radical Democrat lawmakers want to help illegal immigrants buy houses with the gift of taxpayer funds. With a $62 billion budget deficit, we need to focus on preserving essential government functions, not unfair political spending for those here illegally.
