Two Congressmen — House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Immigration Subcommittee Chairman Tom McClintock (R-CA) — have sent letters to the heads of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) demanding to know how taxpayer dollars are being used to house illegal aliens.
The letters cite reports that the US housing market is the “toughest” in a generation, noting that half of the nation’s renters are struggling to keep up with rent increases, while the administration has allowed at least 5.3 million illegal migrants to flood into the country. Jordan and McClintock point out that also competing for housing are at least 1.9 million “got-aways.” Nevertheless, in spite of these numbers, they say the administration is “focused on funneling as many foreign nationals into the United States as possible, including with a refugee resettlement goal of 125,000 in fiscal year 2024 alone.”
The lawmakers note that, according to a briefing by a State Department official in June, the US job market is “weak” and has limited the government’s plans to bring in even more refugees.
The case made by the Congressmen is seconded by Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake, who told Breitbart News last week that rent has doubled in many locations, thanks in large part to illegal immigrants.
They [illegal immigrants] have to live somewhere, and the government’s putting them up — sometimes hotels, sometimes they’re giving them subsidies for apartments. Even if they’re not . . . we’re having to compete for those apartments with them. And when you have only so much supply and you have so much demand, prices go up. That’s exactly why housing is unaffordable for young people.
