Biden Plan: More Marriage Fraud

An upsurge in marriage fraud will be the likely outcome of the Biden Administration’s plan to give legal status to illegal aliens married to American citizens, says an analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) denies this possibility, saying that it “has strong processes in place to identify and address potential fraud, which will be applied . . . to ensure the integrity [of the program.]” CIS notes, however, that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, when he was head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, had little sympathy for employees who tried to expose fraud. He suggested that their concern derived from “black spots on their hearts.”

CIS cites an estimate that already between five and 30 percent of marriages between U.S. citizens and foreigners are fraudulent. It quotes a consular officer who observed that “[T]here is no stronger incentive to fall in love than when you get a deportation notice in the mail.”
