Mayorkas Wants More Money to Admit More Migrants

In spite of having been impeached for not doing his job — just last week — Alejandro Mayorkas, native Cuban and current Secretary of Homeland Security bragged the other day that he has the legal power to admit even more illegals than he’s been doing for the past three-plus years.

Mayorkas told a reporter on June 26:

If an [caught] individual has agreed to and been returned voluntarily [to Mexico], are they eligible for a CBP One appointment? They are.

Illegal border crossing, unlike other crimes, has no real consequences. The worst that can happen, from the perspective of the illegal migrant, is that he or she will be sent back, usually to make plans for the next attempt.

Mayorkas, who never meet an illegal he didn’t want to share his adopted country with, just wants his clients to do things the “right” way. For him, the right way is to utilize any of the “parole” programs he and Biden have put into place, most especially, the “CBP One”  smartphone app at an official Port of Entry. The app somehow magically conveys a patina of legality to an act that otherwise is opposed to immigration law. The secretary continued:

The number of appointments that are permitted through CBP One — approximately 1,400 to 1,500 a day — are based on the capacity of our ports of entry. They are antiquated ports of entry that are also in need of funding to modernize them.

Admitting 1,500 every day adds up to about one million a year, yet that is not enough for this administration. The additional funding that Mayorkas wants would simply enable him to admit more. Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, responded:

They don’t want to actually bar people from coming into the country. They just want the [illegal migrants] to be laundered through the CBP One process, and this enables them to do that. What [Mayorkas is] saying is, if Congress gives us more money, we will wave in illegal aliens even faster. . . .

The “broken” immigration system the Left is always harping on is “broken” only to the extent that it prevents these people from admitting the entire world. Given sufficient authority, that’s what they would do.
