Criminals Come for a Better Life

The rate of violent crime in Venezuela has fallen sharply during the past couple of years. Its capital Caracas, deemed one of the world’s most dangerous cities, saw a twenty-five percent decline in homicides since last year. Crime overall, according to one source, declined by 32 percent.

A spokesman for the Venezuelan Violence Observatory offers the following explanation for the present trend: “Crime is falling in Venezuela because of the destruction of the country’s economy . . . because of the loss of opportunities for crime.”

As large numbers of illegal aliens from Venezuela have entered the United States, we have seen a number of high-profile comes with Venezuelans charged as the perpetrators.
