A CBS News poll conducted last week asked U.S. adults and registered voters about their views on topics related to illegal immigration. Sixty-two percent said they would support a national program to deport all illegal aliens now living in in the U.S. Thirty-eight said they would oppose it.
Sixty-two percent supported the idea of local police assisting the deportations by helping to identify illegals, and thirty-eight percent were opposed. Respondents were almost evenly split on whether the government should establish large detention centers were illegal aliens could be processed for deportation. Fifty-two percent were opposed, and 48 percent were in favor.
Fifty-six percent said that the situation at the Mexican border will be a major fact in how they vote; 28 percent said a minor factor, and 10 percent said no factor.
