Having been unsuccessful in hoodwinking Congressional Republicans into passing his open-borders bill, Joe Biden yesterday simply ordered the bill’s major provisions into national policy. Most damaging is that his executive order, like that bill, will permit illegal border crossing for up to 2,500 migrants a week before DHS can do anything to stop it, even if it wanted to. That one provision would permit nearly one million illegal entries every year.
And it gets worse. The order comes with tons of exemptions, for unaccompanied alien children, for example, and it sets no limit on the roughly 70,000 monthly encounters allowed by the CBP One App and various humanitarian parole programs.
John Binder of Breitbart News writes:
Between the threshold embedded in the order — where 900,000 annual migrant encounters will be tolerated before DHS steps in to restrict asylum claims between Ports of Entry — and the parole pipeline that imported more than 800,000 migrants over one year, the Biden administration is looking to add one migrant to the U.S. population for every two American births.
Put another way, while 3.6 million American births occur annually, the Biden administration seeks to permit the arrival of nearly two million migrants. [Emphasis added.]
Opponents were quick to point out the order’s loopholes. Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) argued that, under the order, the annual illegal migrant inflow will be even larger than it is now, because it ignores the estimated 600,000 “got-aways” that are crossing the border every year and the 30,000 migrants from flying directly into the US every month.
Nevertheless, accompanying the order were the usual straight-faced claims by admin officials about its “toughness” (which sound a lot like similar inner-party protests about how “alert” the Big Guy is). DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said, for example: “This executive action is yet another step the Administration has taken within its existing authorities to deter irregular migration.”
Biden’s answer to “irregular” migration, as always, is not to stop it but to normalize it. Don’t be fooled.
