The Biden Administration’s Department of Justice has notified Iowa that it will sue the state if it tries to enforce a law that allows officers to arrest illegal aliens who have previously been deported from the United States. If found guilty, a judge could order them to leave the country.
Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian Boynton says that Iowa’s statute overrides federal supremacy in immigration law enforcement and that it “effectively creates a separate state immigration scheme.” Iowa will face the lawsuit if it does not suspend enforcement of the law by May 7th.
The governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, defended the statute, stating that “The only reason we had to pass this law is because the Biden administration refuses to enforce the laws already on the books. I have a duty to protect the citizens of Iowa. Unlike the federal government, we will respect the rule of law and enforce it.”
