Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) recently introduced a resolution which calls for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who has presided over the catastrophic surge of illegal immigration across our southern border. In November, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who is now speaker of the House, said Mayorkas should resign, or face impeachment.
Andrew Arthur at the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) has written an article weighing the merits of impeaching Mayorkas. He concluded that:
“While it will ultimately be up to Congress to decide whether to impeach and convict DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, it’s unlikely that his replacement would do anything differently at the border. The impeachment process may be beneficial, however, especially if it reveals to the American people the scope of the disaster at the Southwest border and explains to them how that disaster happened.”
