Got-Aways: The Wild Card

We spend a lot of time citing numbers of illegal migrants “encountered” between official ports of entry along our southern border. Those encounters lead generally to one of two outcomes: either the alien encountered is (1) returned to Mexico (or some other country) under Title 42 or the Migrant Protection Protocols (Remain in Mexico) or (2) more often these days, admitted, with a polite request to stay in touch while their (usually bogus) claim to asylum is sorted out.

God knows there are all too many of these “encountereds” (there were about two million in fiscal year 2021), but what about the wild card: the “got-aways”?

A new posting on Breitbart quotes an unnamed source within Customs and Border Protection to the effect that so far this fiscal year, which started in October, at least 364,000 migrants have gotten cleanly across the border without notice by U.S. authorities. Last month alone, the estimate was 60,000.

Those estimates come from evidence derived by aerial drones, cameras, and other technology systems, as well as such traditional techniques as counting footprints. Estimates are therefore hit-or-miss under the best of circumstances and tend always to under-estimate the actual number. The current short-handedness of the Border Patrol and the diversion of field agents to administrative duties only contribute to under-estimates.

Even so, it’s clear that at least 1,700 migrants are coming into America without official notice each and every day. Given that we’re seven months into FY 2022 with five to go, even if the rate of unnoticed entry stays constant (which it won’t, as Title 42 and MPP are abandoned), we’d be looking at an admitted under-estimate of 624,000 got-aways for the year.

Add to that the potential millions of encountered illegals and refugees and immigrants admitted legally and you have numbers that no country, not even the USA, could long endure and still survive.

Unfortunately, we have a regime in Washington that has no intention of helping the USA survive in any recognizable form.
