Open Border Will Attract Afghans

Amid discussion as to how many Afghans should be admitted to the U.S. is the reality that many people in that country may view our open border as an invitation to come here, regardless of whatever limits we set.

Todd Bensman at the Center for Immigration Studies notes that “Well-established routes and smugglers have been in place for years to move Afghans over the U.S. southern border — despite whatever policy-makers in Washington, D.C., decide — and usually they get to stay permanently.”

In the past the numbers have been small, but with the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, Bensman warns, we can “Expect many more Afghans to start trammeling the international route soon, especially now that most of the world is well aware that the U.S. southern border has fallen into un-defendable chaos.”
