9/11 Lessons Not Learned

Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, says U.S. did not learn its lessons from the 9/11 attacks twenty years ago. Five of the perpetrators of those attacks were illegal aliens who overstayed their visas.

To help prevent future attacks by foreign terrorists, a 9/11 Commission was created to recommend reforms. Among them were the recommendations that states issue secure IDs and that the federal government set up a system to make sure that visa holders leave the country when their visas expire. During the past two decades, Krikorian notes, neither of these recommendations has gone into effect.
