UPDATE: Fox News is now reporting the number of migrants under the Del Rio bridge has grown to 8,000 in the past 24 hours. “Out of control,” the outlet says.
On September 7, we reported on the arrival of an initial group of Haitian migrants, numbering about 2,000, into this country at Del Rio, Texas. Since that time, the numbers have continued to swell with no let-up in sight.
New footage shows the execrable conditions under a bridge in Del Rio, where the illegal migrants are waiting for the U.S. government to take them in hand. A September 15 piece on Breitbart News, based on footage obtained by an unnamed CBP source and titled “Biden Detains 5K Migrants Under Texas Border Bridge amid Their Own Excrement,” tells the story.
The source [writes Breitbart’s Randy Clark], not authorized to speak to the media, says the Border Patrol is not properly equipped to deal with the situation using standard resources. The video shows an area near the camp littered with human excrement. The portable restrooms are not sufficient for the growing crowd size.
That crowd size–about 5,000 when the video was taken–is now estimated to be at 6,000, most of them Haitians. But that number is constantly growing. According to the mayor of Del Rio, another 20,000 migrants are on their way.
With such unsanitary conditions, health is a huge concern, and Valverde County Judge Lewis Owens told Breitbart, “The NGO and local hospital have tested some of the released migrants and have discovered HIV, TB and COVID-19 on several occasions, the federal government is not doing the testing.”
Currently, in this case, the federal government is not doing much of anything, because its resources are overwhelmed. According to Clark, “The detainees at the camp are not on any official detention rolls and have not been booked into official processing programs.” They are simply there, waiting in squalor.
