53 Migrants Found Dead inside Abandoned Truck

(Note: The posting below has been edited twice to reflect the current death toll according to authorities.)

Authorities opening an abandoned 18-wheeler in San Antonio on Monday made a ghastly discovery: at least 46 51 53 of the migrants inside were dead of heat-related causes. Though the trailer was capable of refrigeration, the air conditioning was off, and no water appeared to be available. Daytime temperatures in San Diego yesterday topped 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Sixteen occupants, including four children, were found alive and sent to local hospitals.

The White House, whose policies have encouraged illegal migration, immediately blamed human smugglers, while critics directed the blame at the Biden administration itself. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has frequently clashed with Washington on its border policies, tweeted:

These deaths are on Biden. They are a result of his deadly open border policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted:

How many more people have to die before Dems give a damn?

The area where the truck was found, near the Lackland Air Force Base, is said to be a popular dropping-off point for smugglers. Three persons were taken into custody, though no further details are yet available. The nationalities of the victims are likewise uncertain, although the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs said that at least two of the hospitalized are from Guatemala.

The gruesome discovery comes 17 days after Joe Biden announced a “ground-breaking, integrated new approach to managing migration” that would “disrupt the human smuggling networks.” We assume that scheme must not have gotten cranked up yet. Maybe he put Kamala Harris in charge.
