The Del Rio sector of the border in Texas is experiencing the highest level of illegal migrant traffic in the past 20 years, the Border Patrol there having arrested more than 149,000 migrants this fiscal year. That’s a 500 percent increase over last year.
The onslaught is hardly diminishing. Yesterday, more than 100 mostly Venezuelan migrants crossed the border in just one hour. They were transported to a nearby processing center where most will be released into the United States.
The group had crossed the Rio Grande, currently swollen due to heavy rains and patrolled by Border Patrol and Texas authorities using airboats.
