Arnold Ahlert posts a detailed report today on Gov. Rick Perry’s decision to send 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the border, and the Obama policies that created the current border crisis. Perry said on Monday: “Over the years I have repeatedly called on the federal government to live up to its responsibility of protecting this great nation by securing the border.”
Perry noted that more than 203,000 illegal aliens responsible for committing more than 640,000 crimes, including 3,000 homicides, have been booked into Texas county jails since 2008. He further pointed out that the thousands of unaccompanied minors apprehended comprise less than 20% of the influx, and while enforcement agents are caring for children “drug cartels, human traffickers and individual criminals are exploiting this tragedy for their own criminal opportunities.”
Perry said that the visual image of troops on the border could dissuade potential illegal border-crossers who have been encouraged to come by the Obama policies.
