‘Temporary’ Visas Surge Under Obama

Sneaking across the border is not the only way illegal aliens enter America.  In fact, an estimated 40 to 45% of illegals enter on visas then illegally overstay.  In the face of that reality the Obama administration has increased the number of visas issued for “visits” by 71% in just six years, according to a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies.

State Department data from 2009 through 2014 show that the share of visa applications that were denied dropped by 19%, suggesting that scrutiny of applicants has become more lax.  The U.S. still has no way of identifying aliens who overstay their temporary visas, even though Congress has mandated a check-out system for foreign visitors eight separate times.

The number of “non-immigrant” visas (mainly tourists, students and temporary workers) issued climbed from 5.8 million in 2009 to 9.9 million in 2014.

David North, author of the report, said: “The Obama administration doesn’t seem to be concerned about the size of the illegal population in the country.  They are issuing more non-immigrant visas, and denying fewer — a policy that ensures more visa overstayers at a time when there is small likelihood of deportation unless the alien is arrested for a felony.”
