Some DACA Recipients Have Arrest Records

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed that almost 60,000 recipients of the DACA program (eight percent) have arrest records. This program allows illegal aliens in the DACA category to stay in the U.S. and work. Legislation now before Congress would grant them a permanent amnesty and a pathway to citizenship.

The director of U.S. citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) stated that “You could be arrested a whole lot of times and still get DACA.” While not all of those arrested were convicted, Cissna noted, “I would like people to keep in mind .  .  . whatever they do , I would hope that we, at USCIS, would be able to turn down these people .  .  . if we think they’re a safety threat .  .  . if someone is a gang member .  .  . even if they don’t have a conviction.”
