Reform Bill Defeated in House

The House defeated a bill sponsored by House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) to place significant limits on chain migration. The vote was 193 to 231, with all Democrats and forty-one Republicans voting against it. One reason for its defeat was that the House Republican leadership, under Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), did little lobbying to promote it. Ryan is promoting another bill, one more congenial to the cheap labor interests of the Republican Party, which would leave chain migration much more intact.
