New California Law Frees More Alien Criminals

California law enforcement officials have granted far fewer requests to hold detained alien criminals for federal immigration authorities since the state’s “Trust Act” went into effect this year. The Trust Act, one of several illegal alien-friendly laws recently enacted in the state, limits the ability of local law enforcement to comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement requests to hold aliens longer than their scheduled release date to give the understaffed ICE time to take them into custody.

ICE detainer requests only ask for 48 hours to give the federal agents time to pick up the alien criminals and start deportation proceedings, but due to the Trust Act and federal district court rulings, more local agencies are ignoring the ICE requests. Predictably, new crimes by the released aliens are already being reported.
