House Votes to Cut Funds to Sanctuary Cities

In response to the national outrage over the killing of Kate Steinle, the U.S. House on Thursday voted  241-179 to cut off federal law enforcement grants to cities like San Francisco that free criminal aliens in violation of federal law.  The vote on the bill by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) was largely along party lines, with some Democrats saying that “good policing” justified sanctuary policies.

The Obama administration threatened a veto if the measure should pass the Senate and reach the president’s desk, continuing to insist that the only solution to the nation’s immigration problems was passage of “comprehensive [amnesty] reform” legislation.
