Haitians Coming From Mexico Set Free

AP reported on Thursday that a surge in border crossings has prompted the Obama administration to start releasing many of the growing number of Haitians caught at the Mexican border, due to a lack of detention space.  They will join the thousands of Central Americans being freed on promises to appear for a court date.

Buried in the AP story was mention of a fairly typical Central American migrant: “Ana Lidia Dubon Martinez is nearly eight months pregnant with twins and left Honduras with her 11-year-old brother almost a month ago. The pair swam across the river in Matamoros, Mexico, and turned themselves in to border agents in the U.S. …Martinez is headed to Los Angeles via bus.”

Left unsaid is the likely outcome of the Martinez story, and untold tens of thousands like it. In a few weeks she will give birth, at taxpayer expense, to two brand new U.S. citizens under the absurd “citizen child” rule. These new U.S. citizens will have full welfare benefits, and the mother and her brother will be allowed to stay because “we don’t want to break up families.”
