Carlson: Dems Once Cared About U.S. Workers

Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson notes that it wasn’t so long ago when Democrats often opposed illegal immigration and sometimes high levels of legal immigration because the influx of of foreign workers was harmful to the wages and working conditions of American workers.

He observes that “As late as 2006, there were still liberals who cared about the economic effects of immigration. “Immigration reduces the wages of domestic workers who compete with immigrants,” explained economist Paul Krugman in The New York Times. “We’ll need to reduce the inflow of low-skill immigrants.” That same year, Hillary Clinton voted for a fence on the Mexican border. So did Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, and 23 other Senate Democrats.”

Today, Carlson maintains, Democrats support mass immigration, legal and illegal, as a means to build the electoral clout of their party.
